Hail to the California state flower, the poppy. I always need nature in my life, so I stepped away from the design table today to get the last whiff of the poppies before they go out of season. This year, I went late in the season, so the poppies were disappearing. But nonetheless, it's always a nice hike, breathtaking views and a field of color.
For those that have never been, the poppy reserve is in the Antelope Valley about an hour and a half outside of L.A. - It's worth the drive. Bring a picnic and make a day out of it. Parking is $10 per car, but the money goes towards preserving the poppies. Of all the times I've been, I've never step foot in the little gift shop they have, but this time I did. I found some great prints and some nice facts on poppies. I had to snap them to share. Stay on the trails, there are many rattlesnakes, lizards, and other wildlife hiding out to protect the blooms. When you drive back, opt for the scenic route through Angeles National Forest to spot the many horses. Until we meet next year poppies!
